U.S. Bank Stadium
Minneapolis, Minnesota
Opened in July 2016, the dramatically designed U.S. Bank Stadium leads the pack in large venue sustainability efforts. The enclosed stadium’s operation includes massive efforts to reduce its carbon footprint in all areas, including water, waste, energy, and purchasing. A translucent roof and massive mobile front windows enable an abundance of natural light and a view of downtown Minneapolis.
Award-winning work, creative solutions
Roof Challenge
Several unique installation situations required innovative solutions. The roof was 300 feet from the floor, so getting material to the catwalks was an incredible challenge. There were 4,000 pieces to be installed in the roof in a timely fashion. SFA had over 20 installers working on the roof alone during the duration of the project.
Wall Challenge
SFA also installed sound-absorbing material on some of the walls in the stadium. Seemingly standard vertical walls unexpectedly turned out to be tilted in at the top. Due to this angular challenge, riggers rappelling down on ropes ended up further away from the walls as they descended, which was naturally counterproductive.
We developed some very creative and safe installation methods to address this unprecedented challenge. Alongside multiple onsite engineers and managers, the project was ultimately completed on time.
